Reminder to Supervisors- Employees Must Complete "Getting-On-Board"
New employees must visit HR to complete their "Getting On-Board with Human Resources" Program on or before their first day of employment.
OPS 'Getting On-Board' Sessions are offered 5 days a week:
- Mondays 1:00 pm
- Tuesdays 4:00 pm
- Wednesdays 11:00 am
- Thursdays 10:00 am
- Fridays 11:30 am
New employees must arrive promptly for the scheduled time and bring their completed sign-on packet that is available for download on the HR website http://www.fgcu.edu/HR/packets.html. Those who arrive late or do not have their completed paperwork will be required to attend a later session. Once the session is completed the employees will receive a ‘Sign-On Verification’ form which they are directed to return to their supervisor. This form notifies the supervisor that the employee has completed the “Getting On-Board” requirements and is able to begin work.
Faculty, A&P, and SP new employees will be scheduled with an appointment to complete the program on their first day of work. This appointment will be stated in the Letter of Offer sent to the new employee.
Please feel free to contact HR (590-1400) with any questions about "Getting On-Board with Human Resources". Thank you for your help ensuring all employees complete their "Getting On-Board with Human Resources" program on or before their first day of FGCU employment.
How to Access People First as a MAC or Firefox User
Employees have reported issues trying to access People First using Firefox or a MAC. Please follow the instructions below to gain access to the People First system until a permanent solution is put into production in July 2010. Assuming that you have a version of the Firefox browser on your Mac, the following should work.
Please note, the People First system has not been fully tested with the Firefox browser. There are some known issues with the display of certain buttons and dropdowns, although they appeared to function properly in our limited testing. Because we are aware of these issues we do not openly advertise Firefox as an option and only recommend IE 6 Service Pack 2 or IE 7 on a PC. We are looking forward to the People First system enhancements and upgrade scheduled for a July 2010 release, as these known issues will be resolved for the Firefox browser.
These are the steps you will need to take to log into the People First system using Firefox on your Mac or PC:
• Download and install the add-on called 'User Agent Switcher' from:
• Open the Firefox browser
• On the toolbar click 'Tools'
• Select 'User Agent Switcher'
• Select 'Internet Explorer 7'
• You should now be able to log into People First with Firefox
From our testing; when you close the Firefox browser it reverts back to its default settings, so you will need to set the 'User Agent Switcher' to 'Internet Explorer 7' each time you want to log into People First.
Please contact Dee Bryan at Ext. 1422 if you require further assistance after trying these instructions.

Important Flex Spending Reimbursement Deadlines
Use it or lose it! Flexible spending accounts are a great way to fund medical and dependent expenses with pretax dollars, but if you do not use services and submit your claims by the deadlines, you lose the benefit of these accounts—and the money. (See Section 125 of the IRS Tax Code)
March 15, 2010 is the last date you can have services and claim them on your 2009 reimbursement account. Receipts dated after March 15 will be applied to your account for 2010.
April 15, 2010 is the deadline for filing medical and/or dependent care claims for your 2009 account. Take note:
- Claims with postmarks, fax dates, or time stamps after midnight, Thursday, April 15, 2010, cannot be honored.
- If you have any money in your 2009 account after eligible claims have been processed, you will lose it.
The FSA claim form and other forms are available on the HR website Forms page.
The 2010 Lee County National Multiple Sclerosis Society Walk will be held on Saturday, March 20 beginning at 9 a.m. at Lakes Park (7330 Gladiolus Drive, 3/4 mile west of Rt. 41) in Fort Myers. Multiple Sclerosis is a devastating disease to the central nervous system. Proceeds from this event help fund breakthrough research about Multiple Sclerosis and provide critical services for those living with MS and their families.
Click on FGCU Cares to join the Florida Gulf Coast University MS Walk team as a walker and fundraiser or to make a pledge supporting one of the FGCU Cares team members. Every team member will receive a complimentary FGCU T-shirt, free breakfast and lunch on the day of the event.
Please direct any questions to Susan Moniz, FGCU Cares Team Captain, (239) 590-7833 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Together, we can make a difference!
