The FGCU Honors Program is very selective. As our class size is quite limited, you are encouraged to apply as early as possible.
To be Admitted Into the Honors Program......
......From High School
A 3.5 GPA core subjects and a 1170 SAT and/or 26 ACT score or
Class rank in the top 10% of your high school class (must be documented either on your transcript or by a school official)
......From FGCU or Other Universities
Students in good standing, with a 3.5 GPA from their last institution or at FGCU are invited to apply to the Honors Program.
First semester freshmen at FGCU who have not received final grades may apply with a recommendation from two FGCU faculty members.
To Apply:
Complete the application to the Honors Program (this is in addition to the FGCU application). A completed Honors Program application includes your High School GPA, your SAT and/or ACT scores, your University GPA (if applicable), as well as completion of the essay.
Submit a copy of your official school transcripts.
Include other evidence which demonstrates your achievements in scholarship, leadership, creative endeavors, or service.
To Remain in Good Standing with the Honors Program:
Maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.3. If the cumulative GPA falls below 3.3, but not below 2.5, the student will be on honors probation. They will then have one semester to raise their cumulative GPA to 3.3.
A cumulative GPA below 2.5 will result in the student's removal from the program.
Complete 24 credits per academic year (fall, spring, summer). Failure to attend FGCU for two consecutive semesters will result in the student's removal from the program. First semester freshmen must complete at least 6 credits of Honors coursework, before their second semester.*
Honors students with between 15 and 60 hours of coursework completed must take at least 3 credits of Honors coursework per semester.*
Honors students with over 60 credit hours must complete at least 1 credit hour of Honors coursework per semester. *
Honors students must attend four Honors Events per semester. Please check the activities page for a complete list of all of the events during the year.
Students must make satisfactory progress towards completing the Honors Portfolio ("Satisfactory Progress" is defined as earning at least 800 portfolio points in the course of one academic year).
To Graduate from the Honors Program:
üBe in good standing in the Honors Program (see above)
üComplete the following honors courses, unless you have already received credit for these courses from FGCU or from another institution:
üHonors Colloquium
Completion of the Appropriate Number of Courses for your Admission Status:
üAdmitted with 0-16 credit hours: Students must complete 20 credit hours of Honors coursework
üIf admitted with 17-30 credit hours: Students must complete 13 credit hours of Honors coursework
üIf admitted with 31-45 credit hours: Students must complete 10 credit hours of Honors coursework
üIf admitted with 46-75 credit hours: Students must complete 9 credit hours of Honors coursework
üSuccessful completion of the Honors Portfolio. Information on the Honors Portfolio is given to students at Fall/Spring Orientation
* Under certain conditions, students may apply for exemptions or reductions in the number of credits they are required to take to remain in good standing. Reductions and Exemptions allow a student to remain an active member of the Honors Program and to remain eligible for Honors funding and benefits. However, students must still complete the requisite number of Honors coursework credit hours (see above) to receive Honors recognition at graduation and on their transcripts.
