Honors offers many scholarships. Most are designated for specific experiences such as research, travel abroad, or service and require that the student be an active member of Honors in good standing. To be eligible for any scholarship from Honors, a student must maintain a GPA of 3.3+. Students in the Program are notified about scholarship opportunities via our Monday Messages.
A student must have a cumulative FGCU GPA of 3.3 to be eligible to receive an honors scholarship (special note: The Gold Scholarship has different GPA requirements, please consult the Gold Scholarship page for information on that program) and be in good standing with our Program.
President's Gold Scholarship: The most prestigious scholarship offered by FGCU. Information on this scholarship can be found here. (This Program is administered by the Office of Admissions.)
Study Abroad Scholarships: Competitive scholarships to support student study away and abroad. Past awards have ranged from $500 to $2500. Application process announced each Spring through the Monday Messages. Must be an active member of Honors to apply.
Housing Scholarships: Renewable scholarships covering the cost of one semester per academic year of residence in the Honors Building. Scholarships awarded by the Director during the renewal period. Must be an active member of Honors to be considered. No application process. Gold Scholars are ineligible for this scholarship.
Tuition Waivers: Renewable in-state tuition waiver covering the cost of 15-credit hours of tuition (fees not included). Scholarships awarded by the Director during the renewal period. Must be an active member of Honors to be considered. No application process. Gold Scholars are ineligible for this scholarship.
Renewable Honors Scholarships: Renewable scholarships awarded to outstanding honors students. Scholarships awarded by the Director during the renewal period. Must be an active member of Honors to be considered. No application process. Gold Scholars are ineligible for this scholarship.
Students whose FGCU cumulative GPA falls below 3.3 will be put on scholarship probation. Students on probation will be reevaluated in the May following the one in which the student fell below 3.3. The student will maintain all honors scholarships that he/she has during the probation period, but will be ineligible for new ones.
If the student's FGCU cumulative GPA is again 3.3 or better following the probation period, she/he will once again become eligible for honors scholarships and will continue to receive any renewable Honors scholarships that she/he has. Students who are not at a GPA of 3.3 or higher at the end of the scholarship probation period will have any honors scholarships permanently rescinded (including renewable ones). The student may reapply for scholarships once he/she again has a cumulative FGCU GPA of 3.3or better.
Scholarships such as the Public Leadership, Research Fellow, or Study Abroad scholarships have additional requirements beyond GPA. Recipients of these scholarships must maintain the additional standards of their scholarship program to continue to receive these scholarships.
These rules apply only to scholarships given by the Honors Program. Students with President's Gold Scholarships or other awards must consult the rules and restrictions that apply to those directly through the granting office.
