Current students are encouraged to learn the full ins-and-outs of our Program. There are several basic requirements that all students must remember:

Graduation with Honors

To graduate with Honors, students must complete the following:

Students who joined Honors as Freshmen on their first day at FGCU (and did not have an AA degree) ...

Have a 3.5 or better cumulative FGCU GPA upon graduation from FGCU

Good Standing

Honors' most basic requirement is to stay in good standing with the Program. To remain in good standing, students must maintain the following standards:

Students with less than 60 credit hours must ...

Maintain a GPA of 3.3+

Attend at least 4 honors events per semester

Keep Common Hours Free

Complete an honors course per semester until they have completed the number of experiences required for graduation

Students with 60 or more credit hours must ...

Maintain a GPA of 3.3+

Complete an honors course per semester until they have completed the number of experiences required for graduation

Attend at least 4 honors events per semester

Keep Common Hours Free

Honors Courses

Each semester students should take at least one honors course (for exact credit requirement see "Good Standing Above.") There will often be semesters where it is impossible to take an honors course. If students cannot fit an honors course into their schedule because of a block of courses, study abroad, required courses in their major, etc. please stop in to the Honors Office and request an "Honors Course Requirement Waiver/Reduction Form."

Common Hours

Honors students should not register for any classes (except Lessons in Leadership) between 3:30 and 6:30 on Tuesdays. This is the time that Honors holds most of its events, meetings, and social activities. If there is an absolute class conflict with this time block, stop by the Honors Office and request a "Permission to Waive Common Hours Requirement Form."

Communication

Honors will contact current students through their FGCU eagle email address. Students are responsible for reading all emails from Honors. Honors will send most of its correspondences/information through the "Monday Messages." Students should read these carefully as they contain most of the important information that a student will need to keep abreast with what is happening in Honors.

Honors Probation

Honors Students who do not maintain "Good Standing" will be placed upon Honors Probation. This is a one-semester probation period. The student will then have one semester, excluding Summer, to regain "good standing." If the student is not in good standing at the completion of her/his probation semester, she/he may be, at the discretion of the Honors Director, expelled from the Program.

Dismissal from Honors

Students may be dismissed from the FGCU Honors Program for the following reasons:

  • Having a cumulative FGCU GPA of below 3.3 for two consecutive semesters
  • Any violation of an FGCU Student Code of Conduct that results in suspension or explusion
  • Any violation of the FGCU Academic Integrity Policy
  • Failing to be in good standing at the end of two consecutive semesters, excluding Summer

Dismissed students will have an opportunity to discuss their dismissals with the Program's Director. The Director may use discretion in deciding a student's Honors status.
