All Freshman in Honors engage in our Freshman Experience. At the beginning of each experience students are assigned to a cohort with 18-25 other freshman honors students. This cohort will enroll in a similar set of courses, create intramural teams, participate in service projects, organize social events, and elect their own representatives to the Honors Student Leadership Council.
To complete the Freshman Experience the student must do the following:
Fall
Retreat: Each student attends the Freshman Retreat
Courses: Each student enrolls in one of the freshman Honors seminars, the Honors Composition course that corresponds to that seminar (if necessary), and Lessons in Leadership
Social Events: Each cohort plans 1 successful (80%+ attendance) social event for the cohort
Intramurals: Each cohort fields at least one intramural team
Service: Each student participates in cohort service events
50-Mile Race: Each cohort enrolls 7 teams in the 50-Mile Relay
Leadership: Each cohort elects a representative the the Honors Student Leadership Council
Spring
Courses: Each student enrolls in one 3-credit Honors course, a section of Honors Composition (if necessary), and Lessons in Leadership
Social Events: Each cohort plan 1 successful (50+ attendance) social events for Honors
Intramurals: Each cohort fields at least one intramural team
Service: Each student participates in cohort service events
Broomball Tournament: Each cohort enrolls 1 team in the Broomball Tournament
