Each semester, Honors hosts a scholarship competition. This competition is designed to help students practice their written and oral communication skills. The scholarship competition takes place on the second-to-last Tuesday of the Fall and Spring semesters.
Rules
Each applicant must submit an abstract (of no more than 250 words) that describes the most interesting, thought-provoking thing that they learned during the semester. These abstracts are due 14 days prior to the competition. These abstracts are then sent to our interdisciplinary faculty team of judges who score the applicants for which one promises the most depth of discussion.
Each applicant attends the scholarship competition. The top scored essays are invited to the Q&A phase, where they are interviewed, in front of all applicants by the faculty judges. The judges will be interviewing the selected candidates looking for which one has the most informed, critical knowledge of his/her subject.
The judges select the top three presenters as award winners.
First place receives a $1500 scholarship, with second and third place receiving $500 and $250 respectively.
