2012-2013 Competition is open!!!!

 

Honors Research Scholarship Competition 2012-2013

 

The Honors Program will award selected honors students $500 and $1000* scholarships for undergraduate research. The deadline for the 2012-2013 year is March 26, 2012 at 5 PM. Applications must be handed in to the Honors Office in Reed 155. We will accept no late or electronic applications. For the purposes of this competition, research may include the following: creation of new knowledge, significant literature reviews, unpaid internships, work toward an honors theses, creative projects appropriate to the student’s field, and the acquisition of skills which will advance the student’s life plan.

 

 

Eligibility:

 

·         Must be a current FGCU honors student in good standing at both the time of application and the beginning of the Fall 2012 semester

·         Must have a 3.5 cumulative GPA at the end of Spring 2012

·         Must enroll in CRN 81774, Honors Thesis, Honors Directed Research, Directed Research, Independent Study or Internship in Summer or Fall 2012

·         Must hand in a complete application by the above stated deadline

 

The $1000 award is dedicated to students with current projects as of Fall 2012:

 

The application for the $1000 award consists of the following:

 

·         A cover page that states that you are applying for the $1000 scholarship. It must also give the applicant’s name, current mailing address, current email, phone, major, GPA (as of time of application), all majors and minors, semesters in the Honors Program, and if you are a Gold Scholar

·         A personal statement of no more than 500 words that discusses any academic research that you have been involved in heretofore, summarizes your current or intended research/internship project, details all faculty members/supervisors with whom you are working, how this scholarship/internship will help your research to advance, and how research fits into your career goals.

·         A resume

 

The $500 award is dedicated to students with current projects or who would like to begin to get involved in research:

 

·         A cover page that states that you are applying for the $500 scholarship. It must also give the applicant’s name, current mailing address, current email, phone, major, GPA (as of time of application), all majors and minors, semesters in the Honors Program, and if you are a Gold Scholar

·         A personal statement of no more than 500 words that discusses any academic research that you have been involved in heretofore, summarizes your current or intended research/internship project, details all faculty members/supervisors with whom you are working, how this scholarship/internship will help your research to advance, and how this project fits into your career goals.

·         A resume

 

Interviews for eligible candidates will be on Friday, April 6th.

 

* President’s Gold Scholarship recipients are eligible to receive ½ of the monetary award ($500 or $250)
