Special Interest Housing - Leadership through Service Community

Back to Special Interest Housing

The Leadership through Service LLC is a partnership between the Office of Undergraduate Studies and the Office of Housing and Residence Life. The program is designed for first year students who are interested in a transformational leadership philosophy called community-engaged leadership. This leadership philosophy is a service-oriented philosophy that is geared towards making a difference in your community. Students in this residential community will:

  • Take at least two courses together each semester, including Leadership through Service (required both semesters)
  • Live on the same floor in Everglades Hall
  • Attend weekly lunches and/or dinners
  • Have a chance to participate in service projects in and around the FGCU community
  • Develop an understanding of community-engaged leadership and create and lead a major service project with a community organization
  • Create lasting bonds with like-minded students
  • Develop strong relationships with faculty

The courses in this program are taught in a South Village classroom, the same community where students in the program live. The course offerings for the 2014-2015 academic year are listed below.
