History of the Institute


The John Scott Dailey Florida Institute of Government (IOG) is a statewide Institute established in 1981 by the Florida Legislature.  The mission of the Institute is to increase the effectiveness, quality, and performance of local government and businesses in Southwest Florida by providing the hightest quality training and organizational solutions – customized for today’s workplace.  You can read more about the other 5 university affiliates by clicking on the navigation list on the left. 

The Institute of Government has been administratively located at Florida Gulf Coast University for 15 years, and was located at Edison State College for 15 years prior to moving to FGCU.  Local governments, businesses and non-profits in Southwest Florida have come to depend on the Institute as their resource for professional and organizational needs and challenges.  Let us be your partner for success!
