The following topics are covered: maintaining valid visa status, SEVIS (Student & Exchange Visitor Information System), enrollment requirements, employment, social security numbers, medical (health) insurance, and campus resources for international students.

Mandatory Check-In/Document Processing

All F-1/J-1 students must check in with the International Services Office (ISO) within 10 days of arriving in the United States, but no later than January 10, 2011.

  • Students who are arriving from abroad must present the following documents to ISO at the time of check-in:
    • Valid Passport/F-1/J-1 visa stamp
    • I-94
    • I-20/DS-2019
  • Students who are already in the United States and received an I-20 from FGCU must present the following documents to ISO at the time of check-in:
    • Valid Passport
    • I-94
    • I-20/DS-2019
    • Transfer Form (for students who are transferring from another U.S. institution)
  • Students who are already in the United States and did NOT receive an I-20/DS-2019 from FGCU must set up an appointment with the Assistant Director of ISO PRIOR to December 20, 2010. At the time of the appointment, the advisor will determine whether or not a change in immigration status is required.

ATTENTION Transfer Students:

Your FGCU I-20 was issued for “Transfer Pending From: (Previous School Name)[see item #3 on I-20] as you are REQUIRED to complete an Immigration School Transfer Notification procedure. If not traveling with FGCU I-20, you must make an appointment with the Assistant Director of ISO or DSO NO LATER THAN January 10, 2011 and bring your documents and proof of full-time enrollment to the appointment.

If all is in order, you will be issued a new I-20 for “Continued Attendance” to complete the required immigration procedure. If you are traveling and reentering U.S. with FGCU I-20, report to ISO soon upon arrival on campus NO LATER THAN January 10, 2011.
