Course Design Academy

Course Design Academy is a 6 day inter-disciplinary experience offered to all resident faculty members during Summer "A". Participants design or re-design a course based upon significant learning experiences and long-term learning goals.

Participants work their way through a process focusing on the question: What do you want your students to remember 5 years after the course ends?

We will explore learner-centered design principles, discuss ideas in small learning teams and apply principles/concepts to courses. The Academy is not a series of presentations but a collegial, reflective, research-supported experiences based upon Fink's book and backward design principles.

You will exit with a new and improved fall course and tools to implement strategies and activities. Participants will receive a copy of Creating Significant Learning Experiences (new edition) by L. Dee Fink, certificate of participation, and a celebration will be held on the last day to complete the multi-day seminar. In addition, all participants will receive an Academy polo shirt at the celebration.

Course Design Academy II

Course Design Academy II was introduced in the summer of 2014 for Faculty Fellows who had previously attended Course Design Academy I.

Each summer will feature a different "special topic" with this year's focus on blended or hybrid courses.

We will create elements of blended courses using various learning theories and strategies. You will plan a blended course from goals to outcome and devise an effective blended syllabus.

Participants will receive a copy of Essentials for Blended Learning:  A Standards Based Guide by Jared Stein and Charles R. Graham, a certificate of participation, and a celebration will be held on the last day to complete the multi-day seminar.
