Mission and Vision

Mission Statement

The Lucas Center for Faculty Development promotes excellence and innovation in higher education pedagogy, supports the reflection on teaching, and cultivates the exploration of the science of learning to ensure accomplished teaching, learning and assessment across the institution. The activities supported by the Center facilitate, promote and advance best practices within our learner-centered campus community.

Vision Statement

The Lucas Center for Faculty Development will foster an innovative and collaborative culture inspiring faculty to transform university teaching and enhance student learning outcomes.

Initiative Goals

The Lucas Center for Faculty Development goals are to:

  • Share best practices in pedagogy among FGCU faculty

  • Share FGCU’s experiences with best practices in pedagogy with regional, national and international audiences

  • Support a culture of excellence in teaching

  • Respond to individual faculty needs for professional development related to teaching, learning and assessment

  • Advance innovations through the scholarly activities of teaching, learning, and assessment

  • Facilitate interdisciplinary connections and collaborations
