Meet the Staff

X. Q. Wang


Assistant Dean of Students

Wang (“Wong”)  was born and raised in Shanghai, China. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Secondary Education with a minor in Mathematic in 2005, and a Master of Education with concentration in Higher Education Administration in 2008. Both from the University of New Orleans. Before his current role as the Assistant Dean of Students, Wang served FGCU as the Programming Coordinator and the Programming Board Advisor for two years.  He has higher education experiences from his previous institutions in areas includes judicial affairs, disability services, leadership development, orientation, international services, union management, accreditation, and the Office of the President. Wang is an active member of NASPA and is currently serving on the NASPA FL State Board.

Lauren Howard

Coordinator for Student Government

Lauren joined the FGCU family from Cincinnati, Ohio.  While Midwest at heart, Lauren is excited to live in sunny southwest Florida! She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Communication Disorders at Ohio University in Athens, Ohio (Go Bobcats!). As an undergraduate, Lauren was involved in Student Senate and held other leadership positions in student organizations. After graduation, she worked in the Office of Undergraduate Admissions as a First-Year Admissions Advisor at Ohio University.

In 2012, Lauren received her Master of Education degree in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies at Virginia Tech (Go Hokies!).  While at Virginia Tech, Lauren was the Graduate Assistant for Leadership Development and the Graduate Advisor for the Student Government Association. It was her involvement during undergraduate and graduate school in which she developed her passion for Student Government, the development of student leaders, and the field of Student Affairs. As a student affairs professional, Lauren’s interests are leadership development, student conduct, orientation, assessment, and access and success initiatives.

Lauren loves everything about Cincinnati and the state of Ohio (sports, family, and friends). In her spare time, she enjoys traveling, watching reality shows, working out, and meeting new people.

Emily Lorino

Coordinator for Leadership Development

Originally from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Emily received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from Saint Louis University in St. Louis, MO.  After graduation, she became employed as a Traveling Leadership Consultant for her sorority, specializing in leadership and chapter development as she traveled to over fifteen higher education institutions across the nation.  Through that experience, Emily discovered her passion for student development and went on to earn her Master of Education degree in College Student Affairs from the University of South Florida.   During her time at USF, she worked as a graduate advisor for student organizations, as well as students on the activities and campus traditions programming boards.   Emily is excited to be a part of the FGCU family and is looking forward to taking the students to the next level in their leadership!

Executive Secretary

Cynthia is very happy in her new position and is even more pleased to be working on campus and interacting with FGCU’s student population. Originally from Massachusetts, Cynthiajoined FGCU’s Department of Continuing Education in January 2011 as the Program Assistant at the Renaissance Academy in Naples.  Prior to moving to Florida in 2007, Cynthia worked as the Financial Assistant to the Director of Pupil Personnel in the Andover Public School System.  Cynthia and her husband are proud parents of their son, Andrew, who is currently pursuing his Doctor of Musical Arts degree in piano performance at the Cleveland Institute of Music. In her spare time, Cynthia is an avid sports enthusiast and enjoys walking on the beach, knitting, crocheting, and reading.

Malissa Sanon

Malissa Sanon was born in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology with a minor in Sociology and Interdisplinary Studies in 2012 from Florida Gulf Coast University. She is currently pursuing a Master of Education in Mental Health Counseling. Malissa was selected for Who’s who Amongst College Students and Universities and the student Hall of Fame. She often goes by the name of Ms. FGCU. She is currently involved in student organization such as A Step Above Perfection and Regulate Unite Listen Engage Speak.

Jessica Williams

Student Assistant

Jessica was born in Manhattan, New York and moved to Fort Myers, Florida when she was seven years old. She is currently majoring in Communication and has a double-minor in Marketing and Advertising. She works as a Marketing Assistant in the Multicultural & Leadership Development Office. She has held various leadership positions such as Emerging Eagles mentor, Student Government Senator, & Director of Marketing for Programming Board. She is also a member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated & currently serves as their chapter secretary. Her ultimate goal in life is to inspire people to do great things, just as others have inspired her. She hopes being a Multicultural Ambassador will direct her in the right path to achieving this goal

Ishbel Correa

Student Assistant

Ishbel was born in Puerto Rico, moved to Orlando at the age of 7, and then eventually moved to St. Cloud where she graduated in 2012 from Harmony High School. She is currently pursuing a bachelor’s in Athletic Training and hoping to master in Occupational Therapy. She is currently an Emerging Eagles Mentor, a Multicultural Ambassador, the Secretary for the Caribbean Student Association, as well as a member of the Phi Eta Sigma Honor Society.

Spencer Stearns

Born and raised in Naples, Florida, Spencer’s objective is to attain a degree in Sports Management. He is the Vice President of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Incorporated on campus and is now a member of the Greek Programming Council. He has aspirations of pursuing more leadership endeavors on campus in the oncoming semesters. After he finishes his undergraduate studies he plans to go on to Grad school. Becoming a young leader at FGCU, Spencer is grateful for the opportunities he has been presented thus far.

Marvin Turcios-Gonzalez

Marvin was born and raised in Miami Florida and transferred to FGCU as a sophomore in the Fall of 2013. He is currently the Vice President of Sigma Lambda Beta International Fraternity Incorporated, an Emerging Eagle Mentor, and a PEERS CARE educator. He is a Student Assistant in the Multicultural and Leadership Development Office and an assistant in the Department of Psychology. He is a Junior and pursuing a Bachelor in Psychology, with a minor in Sociology. He is very passionate about his leadership positions and is continuously looking for more leadership opportunities throughout campus. His goal in life is to not only become a psychologist, but to inspire people to inspire others
