University Internet Connection
Network Services maintains FGCUs dual Internet connections. Currently FGCU has two redundant internet connections, provided by Century Link and the Florida Lambda Rail research network. Both connections are 400mbit.
File & Print Services
Network Services provides file and print services to all faculty and staff users. File services are hosted on various different servers providing departments with space to share their work within their own department and also with others. All file shares are backed up on a regular basis (see backup and disaster recovery)
Application Services
Network Services also hosts, and provides a wide varity of applications used by all members of the university. Some of these systems support day to day operations of the university, or assist facult and students with pursiuing their academic goals.
Core Network Services
All core network services such as switching and routing, or dynamic host configuration and name resolution are taken care of by our department. FGCU has a gigabit connected backbone that provides a reliable network for all your data and voice communication. Network Services also maintains the university's wireless network, for students, staff, faculty and visiting users.
Backup & Disaster Recovery
All university systems are backed up on a constant basis to cover against the unexpected. File servers are backed up nightly, as are the faculty/staff email system, and the student information systems.
Information Security
As keepers of the university's data, Network Services strives to protect all resources against unauthorized access. In conjunction with the FGCU Helpdesk staff we try to educate our users to make sure that they practice "safe computing" and protect both their personal, and the university's data
Data Installation Services
While all buildings come with much preinstalled data wiring, sometimes it is not where it should be. Network Services offers services to have additional data ports for phones/printers or computers installed in a location of your choice. Please contact us at 239-590-1188 if you have any request for additional data wiring.
Remote Site Connectivity
The growth of Florida Gulf Coast University has opened opportunities in offsite locations for the university. Network Services makes sure that all remote users have the same reliable computing experience as our on campus users.
