DEGREE EVALUATION - GLOSSARY OF TERMS

Area: Areas are the building blocks for programs in the Degree Evaluation system. They represent each major component of a degree program, such as Common Prerequisites, Major requirements and Electives.
Attribute: An attribute identifies specific characteristics of courses and students that can be used in the Degree Evaluation to satisfy a requirement. (Course attribute examples are Humanities courses – GEHM and Social Science courses – GESO; Student attribute examples are AADG indicating a student has completed a Florida AA Degree.)
CAPP: Acronym for the Curriculum, Advising and Program Planning software (Degree Evaluation). CAPP tracks a student's progress towards a degree and an UNOFFICIAL report is generated – Degree Evaluation.
Catalog Term: Determines which catalog requirements are used in generating the Degree Evaluation.
Connectors: "And", "or", and "none" are the three types of connectors used in a Degree Evaluation. These connectors are used when defining detail requirements for programs and areas. They allow combinations such as the number of credits and/or courses required.
Curriculum: The programs offered at Florida Gulf Coast University are what constitute the curriculum. These include such basics as level, degree, major, and minor.
Degree Evaluation: The process of running an evaluation via Gulfline. Checks coursework against degree requirements and generates a report to be viewed on-line or printed.
Entry Term: The term requirements will be evaluated against. The "Entry Term" is the term students were admitted and/or declared a major.
Evaluation Process: The process by which students check progress toward a degree. When students run the evaluation process in Gulfline, the Degree Evaluation checks course work against requirements from the FGCU catalog and generates a report. The report details whether or not the student has completed the requirements of the program and why.
Evaluation Term: Term in which the evaluation is generated.
Exception: An exception reflects any changes, such as waivers or substitutions, applied to a student’s academic program by the advisor. This allows the system to individualize a student’s specific degree program.
Expected Graduation Date: IGNORE - at FGCU, this date is automatically generated and may not always reflect the actual Expected Date of Graduation.  If students run a “What-if” Degree Evaluation, the Expected Date of Graduation will be blank.
Group Used to “house” similar sets of courses, such as Humanities or Social Sciences in General Education.
In Progress: Courses a student has enrolled in that have not yet been graded and entered into academic history. Will be shown as source code ‘R' in the report. This report assumes students will satisfactorily complete the courses for which they are currently enrolled and that none of these are duplicates or exceed the maximum allowed toward degree requirements.
Met: Indicates requirements for a program, group or area have been satisfied.
Not Met: Indicates requirements for a program, group or area have not been satisfied. If the student has transfer work that has not been equated to FGCU courses, students should contact their advisor for assistance.
Overall GPA: Current grade point average for all courses taken at FGCU; transfer courses are not included in the overall GPA.
Program: A program is the goal a student is aiming to complete.
Program GPA: Current grade point average (GPA) for all courses in the program that were taken at FGCU (does not include grades from transfer courses).
Required Institutional Credits: Indicates the number of hours that must be completed at FGCU.
Requirements: The detailed specifics of what the program, group or area require. Requirements can include the specific grades allowed, maximum number of courses, and minimum GPA's. Each group or area requirement is independent and must be satisfactorily completed. The requirements are not completely satisfied if any individual area requirement is deficient and is marked “Not Met”.
Result as of: The date the Degree Evaluation was generated.
Request Number: Indicates the number of the Degree Evaluation you are viewing. If the most recent, it will represent the total number of evaluations generated.
Rule: A rule indicates a requirement that includes several choices, such as:
Selecting three courses from a list of ten courses or an attribute;
Selecting one course from a list of possible courses or an attribute;
Selecting one course each from three of five lists or an attribute.
Source Code: The source code on the report indicates where the course information is derived from: E – Exam, H- Academic History, R – Registered in future or in-progress, T – Transfer and Z – Student Attribute.
Total Required Credits: Indicates the overall number of hours required for the degree.
Transfer Credits: Indicates the total number of transfer hours, if any.
Used: Indicates the number of credits/courses used for the Degree Evaluation. This includes in progress courses.
Unused: Indicates the number of credits/courses not used for the Degree Evaluation. Generally contains courses with the grades of F, X, U, and W.
What-if Analysis: Degree Evaluation option to explore other majors, minors and/or concentrations and compare how completed courses fulfill the requirements.
