Does the oil spill induce the change of major nitrifying prokayotes from Archaea to Bacteria? Response of archael and bacterial nitrifers to spilled oil in the Gulf of Mexico (.pdf, 25.3 KB) Dr. Hidetoshi Urakawa (primary author) with Juan C. Garcia, Patricia D. Barreto, Gabriela A. Molina, and Dr. Jose C. Barreto have published a paper derived from this research in the journal Environmental Pollution. The paper's title is "A sensitive crude oil bioassay indicates that oil spills potentially induce a change of major nitrifying prokaryotes from the Archaea to the Bacteria." The paper is available at http://dx.doi.org/10.1016/j.envpol.2012.01.009
Update: The April Daily News section of the National Geographic picked up this research and included it in its series on the Gulf Oil Spill. Interested in reading it?
