What is the Mission and Vision Reaffirmation?
Mission and vision reaffirmation is a process by which the institution and its constituents can recommit and rededicate themselves to the expressed purposes of the university. It is a time to review the language in terms of how well prepared we are to continue to fulfill our purpose and achieve our aspirations.
Why is it being done?
The M&V reaffirmation process is being carried out as a key component in the university strategic planning process. In order for the university to update its current strategic plan for another 5 years, it must ensure the enduring value of its mission and the potential attainment of its vision. This is complemented by an environmental scan of the challenges and opportunities confronting us which together provide a context for determining the goals the university wishes to pursue in the next five years.
How will it be done?
There will be consultations concerning the process with major groups on campus including Faculty Senate, SAC, and SG. Deans should discuss the process with their faculty and administrative directors with their staff. Web pages are being created on the PBC website to provide the university community with information concerning the process and to solicit feedback through a questionnaire. In addition three public forums will be offered the third week in September to provide for additional input.
Who is conducting the process?
The process is being conducted by the PBC which has representation from every major constituency on campus.
How will the results be used?
The results will be used to determine how well-prepared FGCU is to continue to meet its mission and to attain its vision. The environmental scan will complement the mission and vision reaffirmation and suggest where challenges and opportunities may lie ahead given our institutional purpose.
Who will be invited to participate?
All major constituencies of the university will be invited to participate both internally and externally.
When will it occur?
The Web site will be available the third week in August and the questionnaire can be completed at any time. The following schedule has been determined for the Mission and Vision forums:
