2016 SAC Soar Into Spring series (March 7 – March 11, 2016)

Registration closes Wednesday, March 2, 2016

The Staff Advisory Council is hosting its 5th Annual Soar Into Spring series during the week of student spring break. All staff (A&P, SP and OPS) and faculty (both full-time and Adjunct) are invited to attend. The schedule is outlined below. This year we are expanding our opportunities while working towards three main goals:


1) Providing professional development opportunities
2) Providing personal development opportunities
3) Getting to know the FGCU Campus

We thank all those who assisted us with developing and implementing a successful schedule. If you have suggestions or comments for next year's program, please send an email to sac@fgcu.edu with your feedback.

Today's workplace is constantly evolving and changing. Relationship building and the support it provides through formal and informal networks have become an important component to success in the emerging global market. This workshop will address the issue of coaching and mentoring, from both ends of the spectrum, identify the benefits individually and organizationally and provide the tools and techniques needed to be an effective mentor and coach.

Objectives:

  • Identify the skills and traits of a good mentor and coach
  • Determine when and how to supervise, coach, or mentor
  • Understand and implement your own unique coaching and mentoring style
  • Discuss value of formal & informal mentoring models
  • Build rapport through communication, cooperation and collaboration
  • Learn do's and don'ts of delegation
  • Practice creative problem-solving techniques

12:30pm - 1:30pm | Office of Institutional Equity & Compliance presents “Sexual Harassment Awareness and Prevention”

This training discusses and defines sexual harassment in the workplace. We talk through scenarios and address questions related to the OIEC’s sexual harassment investigation process, FGCU’s sexual harassment policies, and the federal laws that prohibit sexual harassment. This is a training that the University is now providing for all new employees and it is the OIEC’s hope that all faculty and staff will attend this training by the end of the fiscal year.

3:30pm - 4:30pm | Campus Conference Programs & Records Management presents “You and Your Records – How to Live Peacefully Together in the Sunshine”

Florida’s Public Records Law is one of the most open public records laws in the country and as an FGCU employee, you are responsible for proper records management including records on your share drive, email, and other places you store information. The Records Management department can provide you with the basic knowledge and information necessary to manage and control public records under your position of responsibility from creation, use, filing, storage and destruction. After the basic course, you can schedule department specific assistance in creating record inventories, utilizing more efficient filing and labeling systems, identifying vital records, and more.

The presentation on Florida Panther will include the natural history, panther kittens, wildlife that lives with the Florida panther, Panther research, and ways you can help save this endangered species. Only 180 left in the entire world. The FWC Panther team partners with the Wings of Hope program with up to date information.
*Participants will receive a panther and kitten photo taken with infrared cameras that are placed in panther habitat*
