Thanks to all who presented and particiapted in this year's Soar into Spring!  We had a very successful week and we look forward to seeing you again next year!!

 

 

The Staff Advisory Council hosts it's Soar Into Spring series during the week of student spring break. All staff (A&P, SP and OPS) and faculty (both full-time and Adjunct) are invited to attend.  Below were this year's events.  Please check back next year for an updated schedule.

9:00am - 12:00pm / Institute of Government presents Team Building

Cohen Center 213

Teams are excellent because of good, solid planning. Participants will complete this session with a detailed set of steps and strategies for enhancing the performance of existing teams and for developing new teams from the ground up. Emphasis will be placed on practical, ready-to-use ideas that can be put in place immediately, including ways to "rebalance" an off-course team. "Low ropes" indoor or outdoor activities are optional.

Key Topics Covered:

  • Identify characteristics of high performing teams and team members
  • Develop a clear, motivational statement of purpose
  • Recognize the role each team member plays during decision making
  • Practice communication skills that increase the chances of positive team action and conclusions

FGCU Food Forest (Near the FGCU Welcome Center and the Kleist Health Center)

This tour will detail how the student ran and student initiated Food Forest began. We will define what makes the Food Forest a permaculture garden, and how it can be a tool for our community to learn about the vast array of foods from all over the world that can be grown locally. Come out and learn how you can grow your own food sustainably in Southwest Florida.

The American Red Cross First Aid/CPR/AED program helps participants recognize and respond appropriately to cardiac, breathing and first aid emergencies. This program teaches the knowledge and skills needed to give immediate care to an injured or ill person and to decide whether advanced medical care is needed.  Included with the $40 fee for this course and upon successful completion of a course in the Adult First Aid/CPR/AED program, participants receive American Red Cross certification. This Adult First Aid/CPR/AED certification is valid for 2 years from the date of course completion.

What would you do if you witness a bias attack? What about if you saw a coworker sexually harass another coworker? What if you saw someone vandalizing campus or individual property? Would you say something? Do you have to? This training will address the sticky situation of being a bystander. In this presentation, we will use stories, role playing, and discussion to parse out what you can, should, and need to do as a bystander, but also an employee on campus.
