Advisory Board

The Student Union Advisory Board

In August of 2006, the Student Union Advisory Board was formed to provide a oversight committee for the Student Union which created a partnership of students, faculty and staff that would serve in an advisory role on all issues related to the Student Union, including recommending, reviewing and evaluating policies, servicces, programs and facilities.
The Advisory Board is a University-wide standing committee run by student officers, with a voting student majority. This presidentially appointed committee is comprised of at least 13 voting members and 2 ex-officio members. The appointment term for student members is one year, beginning in May of each year.  The student members of the board are representative of various university constituencies, so that the board represents a strategically diverse student population.

The purpose of the board is to solicit and evaluate input from all members of the University community regarding the operation, growth and programming of the Student Union. The Student Union Advisory Board meets at least once per month during the Academic Year.
The board has four standing committes:

OPERATIONS AND ADMINISTRATION

The Operations and Administration Committee will review matters related to vendors, custodial, ADA and staffing services of the Student Union. This committee will forward recommendations to the Food Service Advisory Board, Bookstore Advisory Committee and the Student Union Management. This committee will also weigh in on University Policies and how those policies may impact the Student Union.

LONG RANGE PLANNING

The Long Range Planning committee considers potential structural expansions, building improvements and services within the facility. This committee will review budget needs and space use and allocation.

PROGRAMMING

The Programming Committee will be responsible for identifying and making recommendations on programming within the Student Union, including not only recommendations on event programming but on purpose and feel of the Student Union and its locations.

MARKETING AND DEVELOPMENT

The Marketing and Development Committee will be responsible for making recommendations to the Board on membership including marketing, advertisement, recruitment and retention of members. They will move forward applications of qualified candidates interested in serving to the board for appointment.

Applications for membership on the Advisory Board are available at the Student Union Information Booth and in the Student Union Managment Office (SU 234) or the Office of Campus Involvement (SU 215).  The Marketing and Development Committee, will review applications and interview applicants. The Marketing and Development Committee will forward candidate recommendations to the board. Upon approval of the candidates, the board will recommend a slate of candidates for appointment by the President of the University or designee.
