Advisory Board
of the
TEACHING, LEARNING AND ASSESSMENT INITATIVE

BYLAWS

ARTICLE I

This organization shall be known as “The Florida Gulf Coast University Teaching, Learning and Assessment Initiative Advisory Board”

ARTICLE II
Objectives

Section 1. To promote excellence in higher education pedagogy to enhance teaching, learning and assessment across the institution.

Section 2. To highlight and promote national and disciplinary best practices in teaching, learning and assessment while sharing the best practices that are in place at FGCU.

Section 3. To enhance university teaching and student learning.

ARTICLE III
Membership

Section 1. Each academic unit shall be eligible to have one representative on the Board.

Section 2. The means for selecting a unit’s representative shall be left to the individual units.

Section 3. Members will serve a 3-year term but may serve more than one consecutive term. Half of the inaugural members will serve a 3-year term and half will serve a 2-year term determined randomly.

ARTICLE IV
Officers

Section 1. The Director of the Teaching, Learning, and Assessment Office shall serve as the Chair of the Advisory Board.

ARTICLE V
Committees

Section 1. The Board shall create committees as needed.

Section 2. Committee membership is not limited to Board representatives.

ARTICLE VI
Rules of Order

Section 1. The Board shall work toward consensus on all issues discussed.

ARTICLE VII
Meetings

Section 1. The Chair shall call a Board meeting at least once per semester.

ARTICLE VIII
By-law Amendments

Section 1. Bylaws amendments can be proposed to the Board, by the Chair, or by a petition of 20% of the representatives.

Section 2. Bylaws amendment shall be submitted to the representatives at least 14 days prior to the vote.

Section 3. Bylaws amendments will be accepted with an affirmative vote by 2/3 of the representatives.
