The interdisciplinary Master of Science in Health Science program is designed to provide advanced opportunities for baccalaureate graduates. Graduates are prepared to serve as health care leaders in advanced professional roles within the diverse current and dynamic health services delivery system. In addition, graduates acquire skills and expertise in planning, developing, and implementing innovative and quality health care services.

Coursework for this degree program is offered on a part-time basis by distance learning. This program includes a common program core, one required concentration core, and either a capstone project, or internship. Total program length is 36 hours. Concentrations are available in Health Professions Education and Health Services Administration.

Program Admission Requirements

The College of Health Professions and Social Work has a selective admissions policy. Admission requirements include, but are not limited to, the following:

  1. Submit a FGCU graduate application and satisfy all applicable university requirements.
  2. Submit a Department of Health Sciences supplemental application form and portfolio.
  3. Submit official transcripts from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning to provide verification of a baccalaureate degree or equivalent.
  4. Provide verification of a license, certification, and/or registration in a health profession field for admission into the Health Professions Education Concentration.
  5. TOEFL or IELTS scores that meet minimum university admission requirements are required from applicants who have earned their bachelor's degree outside the United States in a country where English is not the official language. This requirement is not limited to international students.
  6. Provide verification of one of the following:
    1. (Combined score of GRE quantitative and verbal sections) + (GPA for the last 60 semester hours of the baccalaureate degree x 200) must equal or exceed 900 (1600 for GRE prior to August 2011); or
    2. Minimum MAT score of 400 and a minimum GPA for the last 60 hours of the baccalaureate degree that must equal or exceed 3.00 on a scale of 4.00; or
    3. (GMAT score) + (GPA for the last 60 semester hours of the baccalaureate degree x 200) must equal or exceed 1100 ; or
    4. A graduate degree from a regionally accredited institution.

        • Or other courses as approved by the advisor.

Additional Graduation Requirements

  • Apply for graduation by deadline indicated in the university calendar.
  • Earn a minimum of 36 credit hours with a minimum of a 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale.

Progression Requirements

  • Maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
  • Earn a grade of C or better in each course. A grade of C minus (C-) is considered less than a C.
