Writing Skills

Students receiving a baccalaureate degree from Florida Gulf Coast University must complete twelve (12) semester hours of writing skills coursework with a minimum grade of C.  These courses are designated with attributes of GRWR or CLWS.  Students are strongly urged to complete ENC 1101 Composition I before attempting additional writing skills courses.  Students awarded college credit based on their demonstration of writing skills through dual enrollment, advanced placement, or international baccalaureate instruction shall be considered to have satisfied this requirement to the extent of the college credit awarded.  Transfer coursework will be evaluated to determine whether the course included a writing skills component sufficient to meet this requirement.

Mathematics Skills

Students receiving a baccalaureate degree from Florida Gulf Coast University must complete six (6) semester hours of mathematics coursework at the level of college algebra or higher with a minimum grade of C.  All mathematics courses offered by FGCU, except MAT 1033 (Intermediate Algebra), fulfill the requirements for Mathematics Skills. These courses are designated with the attribute of GRMT.  Students awarded college credit based on their demonstration of mathematics skills at the level of college algebra or higher through dual enrollment, advanced placement, or international baccalaureate instruction shall be considered to have satisfied this requirement to the extent of the college credit awarded.
