David Deiros enters his fifth season as head coach of the Florida Gulf Coast University softball team.  He was named the first-ever head softball coach in August, 2001. He also serves as a full-time professor of chemistry in the College of Arts & Sciences at FGCU.

Deiros has guided the Eagles to four consecutive 30-win seasons and posted a combined 170-57-2 record, including 38 wins in 2004-05 and a school record 58 wins this past season. During his tenure, he has coached three all-region players, and one all-America honoree.

In 2006, Deiros led the Eagles to an impressive 57-7 record and their first invitation to the NCAA South Regional Tournament.  The Eagles earned a 5th place finish and a No. 28 national ranking.  Deiros was named Division II Independent Coach of the Year for the third consecutive year by the ICAA.

One of the most successful high school coaches in Southwest Florida, Deiros was the head softball coach at  Lely High School in Naples before starting the program at Gulf Coast High School. In six seasons as a head coach, his teams posted a 116-67 record that included one district title, one regional championship, one regional runner-up and one state finalist. He has also coached high school baseball and football in Collier County. His teaching experience includes high school chemistry and physics, as well as chemistry classes at Edison College.

A 1989 graduate of the University of South Florida, Deiros holds a master’s degree in analytical chemistry from the University of Miami.

A member of the National Fastpitch Coaches Association, he and his wife Jennifer reside in Naples with their son Eric.
