Zulay
Hernandez is an instructor of nursing and teaches in the nurse
anesthesia program. Her basic nursing education was obtained at the
University
of Puerto Rico-Mayaguez Campus where she graduated with a Bachelor
of Science in Nursing in 1993. She served in the United States
Army, both in the Military Police from 1990-1993 and in the Army
Nurse Corps from 1993-1996.
After working as a
nurse in surgery, labor and delivery, the emergency department and
the cardiac care unit, Ms. Hernandez matriculated at the University of
Puerto Rico Medical Science Campus where she graduated with a Master
of Science in Nursing degree in 1999.
Ms. Hernandez
worked after graduation at Auxilio Mutuo Hospital in San Juan,
Puerto Rico until 2000 when she moved to Fort Myers and practiced
anesthesia at HealthPark Medical Center, specializing in
cardiothoracic and pediatric anesthesia.
Ms. Hernandez
teaches Pharmacology I and II and
Advanced Principles of Anesthesia II. Her research interests include the
use of patient simulators for education.
Outside of work,
Ms. Hernandez enjoys playing classical guitar, reading and cooking.
