The Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program at FGCU is designated by the Florida Board of Regents as Limited Access. This means that applicants must meet school admission criteria as well as university admission criteria (see university catalog). It also means that the selection process is competitive and that all qualified applicants may not be admitted into the program. Admission criteria includes:

  • Acceptance as a student to FGCU prior to submitting BSN Supplemental Application (Please allow 4-6 weeks for FGCU Undergraduate Admission Application to be processed).
  • A minimum cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.00 prior to submitting BSN Supplemental Application. Use the GPA calculator, or the Student GPA Tools to determine your overall GPA and/or calculate the number of credit hours you need to obtain a certain GPA.
  • Completion of two (2) science prerequisites prior to BSN application deadline
  • Completion of all state-mandated common prerequisites for nursing, with a grade of "C"* or higher, prior to end of summer semester of the year in which application is made. Applicants must document courses completed, courses in progress (via official registration document), and plans for completing remaining courses.
  • » A grade of "C-" does not meet the criteria of "C" or higher
  • Completion of College Level Academic Skills test (CLAST) through examination or exemption prior to end of summer semester of the year in which application is made.
  • Completion of general education, foreign language, and Gordon Rule (6A-10.030) writing and computation requirements prior to end of summer semester of the year in which application is made. Applicants must document courses completed, courses in progress (via official registration document), and plans for completing remaining courses. The general education requirement consists of 36 semester hours of course work in the subject areas of communication, social sciences, humanities, natural sciences, and mathematics. Students who have completed the general education requirement at another Florida public college or university and who provide an official transcript so marked will be considered to have completed FGCU general education requirement. Students who have completed general education courses at another institution will have their transcripts evaluated for possible fulfillment of FGCU general education requirements.
  • RN and LPN applicants must provide evidence of licensure as a RN or LPN in the State of Florida by August 15 of the year in which application is made.
  • Applicants who have attended, but not completed, another accredited baccalaureate Registered Nursing Program (AS, Diploma, or BSN) must provide a letter of support from Chairperson of the nursing program (or designee) that addresses potential for success in a BSN program; safety in providing nursing care; and interpersonal communication skills.
