ADMISSION CRITERIA
BSN SUPPLEMENTAL APPLICATION DEADLINE (FALL
ADMISSION ONLY): FEBRUARY 1, 2008

The
School of Nursing facilitates the transition of the University student
from admission to graduation, cultivates personal and professional growth,
and fosters student retention and progression.
The Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program at FGCU is designated by
the Florida Board of Regents as Limited Access. This means that applicants
must meet school admission criteria as well as university admission criteria
(see university catalog). It also means that the selection process is competitive
and that all qualified applicants may not be admitted into the program.
Admission criteria includes:

Acceptance as a student to FGCU prior to submitting BSN Supplemental Application (Please allow 4-6 weeks
for FGCU Undergraduate Admission Application to be processed).
- A minimum cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.00 prior to submitting BSN
Supplemental Application. Use the
GPA calculator, or the Student GPA Tools to determine your overall GPA and/or
calculate the number of credit hours you need to obtain a certain GPA.
- Completion of two (2) science prerequisites prior to BSN application deadline

Completion of all state-mandated
common prerequisites for nursing, with a grade of "C"* or higher, prior to end of
summer semester of the year in which application is made. Applicants must document
courses completed, courses in progress (via official registration document), and
plans for completing remaining courses.

Completion of College Level Academic Skills test
(CLAST) through examination or exemption prior to end of summer semester of the year in which application
is made.

Completion of
general education,
foreign language, and Gordon Rule (6A-10.030)
writing and computation requirements prior to end of summer semester of
the year in which application is made. Applicants must document courses
completed, courses in progress (via official registration document), and
plans for completing remaining courses. The general education requirement
consists of 36 semester hours of course work in the subject areas of communication,
social sciences, humanities, natural sciences, and mathematics. Students
who have completed the general education requirement at another Florida
public college or university and who provide an official transcript so
marked will be considered to have completed FGCU general education requirement.
Students who have completed general education courses at another institution
will have their transcripts evaluated for possible fulfillment of FGCU
general education requirements.

RN and LPN applicants must provide evidence of licensure as a RN or LPN
in the State of Florida by August 15 of the year in which application is
made.

Applicants who have attended, but not completed, another accredited baccalaureate
Registered Nursing Program (AS, Diploma, or BSN) must provide a letter of support
from Chairperson of the nursing program (or designee) that addresses potential for success
in a BSN program; safety in providing nursing care; and interpersonal communication
skills.
