Policy

A respectful workplace is a right and a responsibility of all employees at Florida Gulf Coast University. Treating people with civility and respect is an important facet of any workplace. All employees are expected to be proactive in handling conflict.

As a general rule*, people having conflicts or problems with one another have a duty to first try to resolve their issues by communicating directly with the other person(s).

If direct communication fails to resolve the conflict or problem, you should request assistance from a supervisor or an FGCU mediator.

FGCU has trained mediators and facilitators that can help you resolve your conflicts. Please contact the University Ombudsman at 590-1022.

For more information on Conflict Management visit the Conflict Management Manual explaining step by step the process and the Conflict Management Tutorial with tips and useful tools to proactively address your conflict.

* an exception to this rule are those cases involving sexual harassment, discrimination or other illegal activities that should use formal reporting mechanisms and resolution processes
