Welcome by Interim President, Shiela Gurr. Introduction of Attendees Bill Bisignani introduced the guest speaker, Karl Hamlin
Karl Hamlin is an Information Systems professional with over 25 years experience. He has practiced I.S. as a corporate executive and as a management consultant, and has extensive experience advising and consulting with internal and external clients. His work has taught him that systems are not just computer hardware and software; systems are about people and bringing them together in a common vision. As an I.S. executive, he managed large-scale, multi-vendor, world-class data centers and their functional operations for eighteen years. His corporate I.S. experience is broad, having progressed to CIO, while working in applications and infrastructure, satisfying business and scientific needs. He established a history of attracting and retaining highly talented individuals, building teams, and inspiring commitment. Employers included Boeing, Lear Siegler, Lockheed, Pfizer, and Seimens, with budgets up to $40 million. As a consultant since 1994, he solves management-level problems for clients, and has seen enough different operations and situations to have a broad perspective. Contract Professional magazine reported: “Hamlin is an in-demand project manager who can give busy, growing companies the right combo of leadership, technology know-how, and has the ability to communicate with whomever.” He has led numerous challenging technical projects in several industries: aerospace, healthcare, insurance, manufacturing, pharmaceutical, and utilities. His client list includes Alcoa, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Entergy, Marconi, McLaren Heath Care, Morrison-Knudsen, and Prudential. He believes that information technology is a critical success factor in every business, and that there are a great many opportunities available to take advantage of this enabling force. Additionally, understanding both the business and the technology is key to seizing the opportunities and producing cost-effective, user-friendly, secure solutions. Karl’s academic background includes a BS degree from the University of Michigan in Engineering, and an MS degree from West Coast University in Systems Management. He also served as an adjunct professor for the F. E. Seidman Graduate College of Business and Administration at Grand Valley State University. K. S.
