This is the text of a story that appeared in the Gulfshore Business Daily of October 21, 2008 HOBBS TAKES ON BB&T PROFESSOR POSITION Dr. Hobbs' appointment follows an earlier story in the Business Digest secton of the Fort Myers News-Press of October 2, 2008 October 2, 2008 Business digest: Business professorship established at FGCU Florida Gulf Coast University announced that BB&T Corp. has established the "BB&T Distinguished Professorship in Free Enterprise" at the university's Lutgert College of Business. BB&T, a full-service bank based in Winston-Salem, N.C., committed $600,000, which qualifies for a 50 percent match from the state, bringing the gift to $900,000. The professorship will enable FGCU to develop a new course for business majors that examines the philosophical basis for free market economics and the connection between capitalism and economic well-being. The professor will be available for public speaking engagements and will develop a book club that focuses on free enterprise. The Lutgert College of Business also plans to create an annual lecture series aimed at bringing in prominent thinkers of national status to further explore the concepts of free enterprise capitalism. |
