Real Estate Career Forum
Lucas Institute and Appraisal Institute Host Career Forum
The Lucas Institute for Real Estate Development and Finance and the Florida Gulf Coast Chapter of the Appraisal Institute hosted a Career Forum on April 10, 2012. The Appraisal Institute hosts similar events around the state, but we are pleased that the only two such events held on a college campus have been here at FGCU. The Career Forum is an integral part of the Lucas Institute, which serves as the primary linkage between FGCU and the real estate industry.
The Forum focused on careers in real estate valuation and consulting, but also addressed other opportunities in the real estate industry, as well as forecasts of the southwest Florida housing and commercial property markets.
An enthusiastic group of around 50 students had the opportunity to meet and network with industry panelists before the panel presentation, and afterward at the reception. The event was organized by our Lutgert College of Business faculty and by Mr. Bruce Cumming of Hettema Saba, who serves as the University Liaison for the Appraisal Institute. Our distinguished group of panelists included Mr. Dan Ceilley of Stephan, Cole and Associates, Nathan Chouinard, also with Stephan, Cole and Associates, Mr. Michael Jonas of Integra Realty Resources, Mr. David Lemonde of Lemonde Valuation Services, Mr. Carlton Lloyd of Integra Realty Resources, and Ms. Rachel Zucchi of RKL Appraisal and Consulting. We are particularly proud of the fact that Mr. Chouinard, Mr. Ceilley, and Mrs. Zucchi are FGCU graduates.
We are grateful to our panelists for spending an evening with us to share their knowledge and insights. Events like the Career Forum provide students and faculty with a critical marketplace perspective, and provide the margin of excellence needed to distinguish our programs. This is particularly important as we anticipate the launch of our real estate major in the Fall semester of 2013. For information on the new major, as well as our existing minor, contact Professor Ken Lusht (firstname.lastname@example.org) or Professor Shelton Weeks (email@example.com)
