Guest Speakers

Robert Lowder is Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of Colonial BancGroup, Inc., headquartered in Montgomery, Alabama. Colonial BancGroup is a multi-state bank holding company with assets of $13 billion, operating over 250 offices in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Nevada, Tennessee, and Texas. Mr. Lowder was appointed to the Board of Trustees at Auburn University in 1983 by Governor George Wallace and was appointed to a second term by Governor Don Siegelman, which Mr. Lowder will serve until January 2007.

Mr. Lowder has been active in numerous local as well as national organizations such as The New England Life Insurance Policyholder's Advisory Committee, Boston, Massachusetts; National President, Auburn Alumni Association; Member, Board of Directors of YMCA of Montgomery, Alabama; Co-Chairman, State of Alabama United Negro College Fund Campaign; Co-Chairman, The Alexis de Tocqueville Society of the Montgomery Area United Way; and Member, Alabama and American Bankers Association. He was also named Citizen of the Year by the Alabama Broadcasters Association.

Mr. Lowder graduated with high honor from the Auburn University College of Business in 1964. While in school, he was awarded many honors such as the Delta Sigma Pi Scholastic Key and the Outstanding Finance Student by the Alabama Bankers Association. He was also awarded the Army Commendation Medal for Distinguished Service, after serving two years of active duty. He is a resident of Montgomery, Alabama, and Naples, Florida.

 

Gerri Moll has been with Bank of America since 1984 and is the current President of Bank of America Southwest Florida. She joined the FGCU Foundation in 1998, and was appointed by Governor Jeb Bush to the FGCU Board of Trustees in 2001. Ms. Moll is a founding sponsor of and past mentor for the Take Stock in Children program. She is also a member of the Leadership Collier Class of 1998, Leadership Florida Class of 1999, and Leadership Florida Board of Regents. She received business and banking degrees from the University of Florida, McMaster University, and Louisiana State University. She is a resident of Naples, Florida.

 

Edward Morton has been with the NCH Health Care System since 1972 and currently serves as its Chief Executive Officer. He is a Chairperson Emeritus of the Florida Gulf Coast University Foundation Board of Directors and has served on the board in different capacities since 1997. He was appointed by Governor Jeb Bush to the FGCU Board of Trustees in 2001. Mr. Morton has also served the community in a variety of key positions such as Director, Moorings Park; Director, Collier County Economic Development Council; Member, City of Naples Redevelopment Advisory Board; Trustee, Youth Development Foundation; Director, Naples Chamber of Commerce; Member, Collier County Health Advisory Board; and Commissioner, Collier County Sheriff's Office.

Mr. Morton received an MBA from the University of Miami. He is a graduate of Notre Dame with a BS in Accounting and also attended Florida International University. He served as a Captain in the United States Army from 1969 to 1972. He is a resident of Naples, Florida.

 

Jerry Starkey is President of WCI Communities and was appointed by Governor Jeb Bush to the FGCU Board of Trustees in 2001.

Mr. Starkey has led WCI, ranked as the nation's 18th largest homebuilder, into a multi­dimensional company that also develops and manages profitable amenities that include golf, marinas, and fine dining. He has also focused WCI's growth on other non-homebuilding lines of businesses in the retail real estate brokerage, mortgage, and title insurance industries. Dedicated to environmental preservation, Starkey recently forged an alliance with Audubon International that will incorporate the organization's Principles of Sustainability into the design of future WCI communities.

A graduate of North Texas State University and the Texas Tech University School of Law, Mr. Starkey is also a member of the State Bar of Texas. His community interests are centered on children's issues, education, the environment, as well as having served on the Boards of the Foundation for Lee County Public Schools and the Hillsborough County Child Abuse Council. Mr. Starkey is a resident of Fort Myers, Florida.
