Literacy Volunteers of Collier County


The mission of Literacy Volunteers of Collier County is to teach illiterate and non-English speaking adults to read, write and speak English. History: Since 1984, Literacy Volunteers of Collier County (LVCC), a 501c3 non-profit organization, has been offering free and confidential one-to-one tutoring to adults who want to improve their reading, writing, and English speaking skills to participate more fully in the daily tasks of life such as family, employment, school and community. Serving over 400 students with a growing list of individuals to be served, LVCC helps meet the challenges of Collier County’s growing population to ensure that all people from all walks of life deserve the chance to live productive and fulfilling lives. An accredited affiliate of ProLiteracy America, LVCC’s trained and dedicated tutors work with students of all levels. All teaching, which is confidential and free, is centered on individual needs and goals of the students and is designed to promote the potential and dignity of every student and to increase students’ language skills to help build confidence and self-esteem.

Literacy Volunteers of Collier County has many opportunities in which you can participate and volunteer according to your schedule, interest, and skills. For example: * Do you enjoy office work? We always need volunteers to help our staff with administrative support (typing, copying, mailings, filing, answering telephones, taking messages etc.). * Interested in fundraising and/or marketing? As a non-profit, LVCC needs to raise critical funding to help support our programs. We welcome your help in grant writing, our annual appeal, writing newsletter articles, brochure development and other important activities. * Do you have artistic skills? We need the skills of a graphic arts designer to help with our newsletters, brochures, and website. * Do you have computer skills and like to work with people? Volunteers oversee our computer lab which has two self-paced programs to learn English. * Interested in organizing our library? We are looking for volunteers to keep our library materials organized and up-to-date
