Lee County Constructs New Tower on FGCU Campus, Enhances Communications System
FORT MYERS, FL - Lee County has begun construction of a new communications tower on the Florida Gulf Coast University campus that will enhance the county's comprehensive emergency communications system. Sprint is conducting the actual construction for Lee County.
Location of the tower on the FGCU campus will provide the University with a number of benefits, including greater compatibility for Campus Police
and Safety communications and Lee County's law enforcement communications system, and it will provide the University with the capability to expand its emergency telephone system located in campus parking areas.
In addition, the University is providing space on the tower for its two broadcast stations, WGCU-FM and WGCU-TV, for microwave transponders that
can improve transmission and signal quality.
The tower is located on the north side of the main entrance road, FGCU Boulevard. The anticipated completion date is Friday, July 6.
