Southwest Florida Community Foundation Meets $40,000 Pledge to FGCU
FORT MYERS, FL - The Florida Gulf Coast University Foundation Inc. recently announced that the Southwest Florida Community Foundation has met its goal to give $40,000 to FGCU over four years to help FGCU meet the Whitaker Challenge.
Spurred by a $2.5 million challenge grant from the Whitaker Foundation, enthusiastic individuals and businesses from all over the community agreed to kick in $2.4 million in matching funds. The State of Florida gave the remaining $4.9 million.
The new 57,000-square foot, high-tech Whitaker Science, Math and Technology Education Building is expected to attract scholars, researchers and scientists from all over the country. The Faculty Library in Whitaker Hall is named for the Southwest Florida Community Foundation in appreciation for the gift.
FGCU, an accredited comprehensive public university, addresses the higher educational needs of Southwest Florida and provides a learning-centered environment that offers high quality educational opportunities for the general public.
