FGCU Renaissance Academy Offers "Private Rights, Public Responsibility" in Sanibel
FORT MYERS, FL - Florida Gulf Coast University’s Renaissance Academy welcomes friends and new faces to its course “Private Rights, Public Responsibility” beginning at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 2 at the Sanibel City Hall.
The four-part course will investigate the role of property rights in the quest for individual liberty and human rights. The course will examine both the intellectual foundations of property rights and their practical working through law and civil society. The instructor will use the Socratic Seminar Format to encourage discussion and exchange of ideas.
Thomas Bethel’s book, The Noblest Triumph: Property and Prosperity Through the Ages, serves as the reference work for the course. Approximately 90 pages of the text will be covered in each meeting. Students are encouraged to obtain the book and read the first 90 pages before the initial class meeting.
Each of the four sessions is 90 minutes. Other meeting dates are Fridays, Nov. 16 and Nov. 30, and Monday, Dec. 10.
