Local Nursing Home Residents Receive "Simple Pleasures" Gifts Friday
FORT MYERS, FL - On Friday, local nursing home residents will receive a visit and handmade gifts called “Simple Pleasures” from Florida Gulf Coast University gerontology students and about 90 middle schoolers. Both the older and younger students spent the fall semester making the gifts and will deliver about 568 sets including items such as stress balls, sewing cards, dominoes and message magnets.
Beginning at 10:30 a.m, participants will distribute gifts to residents of Lee Convalescent Center, Manor Care and Winkler Court. Many of the recipients are Alzheimer’s patients. Participants will also provide cookies, punch and various types of entertainment for the residents. FGCU, the Dr. Piper Center and the Southwest Florida Community Foundation support the project.
