FGCU to Graduate 230 Students During December Commencement Exercises
FORT MYERS, FL - Florida Gulf Coast University will graduate over 230 students during fall commencement exercises 1 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 16 at TECO Arena. Chairman of the FGCU Board of Trustees Scott F. Lutgert will deliver the commencement address to graduates and over 2,000 family members and guests. President William C. Merwin will confer degrees.
This is FGCU’s seventh commencement and includes students completing degree requirements during the summer and fall terms. With December 2001 commencement, FGCU will have conferred over 1,500 degrees since opening its doors in fall 1997. It is the first commencement for the 13 members of FGCU’s new Board of Trustees.
Lutgert has been a strong supporter of FGCU since its inception. He established a $50,000 endowment fund at FGCU for programs within the University’s Renaissance Academy, which resulted in two matching grants bringing the endowment to $150,000.
Lutgert is a founding sponsor of the Collier County Education Foundation, which supports Collier County Public Schools. He also serves as a mentor with the Boys and Girls Club of Collier County.
He is currently the president and CEO of The Lutgert Companies, a real estate development company, as well as the president and CEO of Premier Properties of Southwest Florida Inc.
Lutgert received his Master’s in Business Administration from the University of Chicago in 1969. He resides in Naples.
Guests should be seated by 12:45 p.m. The ceremony will last approximately two hours.
