330 Kids Compete in Ralleyball Tournament at FGCU

FORT MYERS, FL - From 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 8 at Florida Gulf Coast University, 330 kids from Lee County are going to compete and have fun in the USA Team Tennis Ralleyball Tournament and Season-Ending Party.

Ralleyball is one of several courses of instruction offered by USA Team Tennis, an affiliate of the U.S. Tennis Association. “The program is a way of teaching young kids tennis that lets them get out and play quicker,” FGCU assistant athletic director and men’s tennis coach, J. Webb Horton, said. Ralleyball competition uses only the basic skill of rallying to score.

Sixteen teams will play in each of three divisions - red, white or blue - according to age. The idea behind “team” tennis is to make the individual sport a team activity. USA Team Tennis emphasizes fun, fitness and friends. As a result, students learn about the importance of teamwork while also having fun.

The students receive about six weeks of instruction for $55, which includes a T-shirt and the season-ending party.

The tournament will take place from 10:30 a.m. to noon, followed by an awards ceremony and lunch. FGCU’s men’s and women’s tennis teams will provide an exhibition until 1:30 p.m. All events take place at FGCU’s tennis courts. Parents and grandparents are invited to attend. Lunch will be available for purchase but is free for participants.
