FGCU Students March Thursday Night As Part of MLK Celebration
FORT MYERS, FL - In an effort for students at Florida Gulf Coast University to “Remember! Celebrate! Act! A Day On, Not a Day Off” is why the Multicultural Student Center is hosting a scheduled program and march in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 17 beginning in Howard Hall Room 111.
The formal program features a keynote address by executive director of the Quality Life Center, Abdul Haq Muhammad.
“After the program in Howard Hall, we will march immediately to the Commons. A reception in the Commons will follow,” director of Housing and Residence Life, Isaac Brundage, said. The Commons is the hub of FGCU’s student housing.
The program also includes comments from President William C. Merwin and president of the Student Government Association, Magali Solimano. Students will read essays from area elementary, middle and high schools, and Brundage will lead a litany in commemoration of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The program will close with interim dean of Student Services, Joe Shepard.
