Centex Rooney Hosts “Topping Out Party” at FGCU, Media Invited
All subcontractors are invited to attend a “Topping Out Party” hosted by Centex Rooney at noon on Friday, Jan. 25 at the FGCU Fine Arts Building construction site.
A Topping Out Party signifies that construction has reached the milestone of completing the most vertical part of the building. Traditionally, builders put an American flag on top of the building to mark the achievement. Centex Rooney, contractor on the project, is hosting the barbecue lunch to celebrate this achievement.
The $7.5 million building is a 30,000 square feet learning center scheduled to open for the fall semester. The north end will house facilities for the visual arts, including studios for drawing, painting, printmaking, papermaking, sculpture and ceramics, a woodworking shop and 2,000 square foot art gallery for exhibits.
The south end will accommodate amenities for the performing arts and includes 3,000 square feet of classroom space, a multi-function classroom, two music practice rooms, music studios and faculty offices.
The media is invited to witness the progress on the Fine Arts Building.
The FGCU Fine Arts Building is located behind the Library. Access and parking are next to the construction site, off FGCU Boulevard South.
President William C. Merwin; vice president for administrative affairs, Curtis Bullock; and director of the art gallery, Morgan Paine, are expected to attend and will be available for comment.
