FGCU Charlotte Center Activates Web Page, Hotline to Encourage Input from Prospective Students
FORT MYERS, FL - To make it easy for prospective students of the new Florida Gulf Coast University Charlotte Center to tell FGCU what programs they are interested in pursuing, FGCU has announced a new web site and local hotline. FGCU is encouraging residents to visit www.fgcu.edu/info/charlotte/charlottecenter.asp or call (941) 255-7414 to express their interests.
“We are compiling an interest list for several programs that may be offered at the Florida Gulf Coast University Charlotte Center this fall and beyond,” said associate vice president for Community Relations and Marketing and interim program director, Audrea Anderson.
“Right now it looks as though the criminal justice courses via distance learning will begin in August. While these courses are being offered by distance, students will meet at the Center, have access to a staff member once a week and meet with the professor once a month,” she said.
Other programs in elementary education, nursing and other health care programs, continuing education, and certification classes are under consideration for the Charlotte County Cultural Center, which will house the FGCU Charlotte Center.
Citizens say university programs are integral in building up the county’s base of leaders, administrators and professionals.
“We will announce other programs as prospective students indicate an interest,” Anderson said.
In addition, the FGCU Charlotte Center will house a full-time FGCU “information broker” for residents. The cost of launching the FGCU Charlotte Center initiative - complete with personnel, operations and marketing for the next five years - is $500,000.
Last week, the Charlotte County Board of Commissioners stepped up to the plate and committed half that cost. Since the state does not have money available to replicate campuses, the community will chip in the remainder to make the FGCU Charlotte Center a reality.
