FGCU Founding Director of Nursing Retires
10/2/2002
FORT MYERS, FL - Founding director of Florida Gulf Coast University’s School of Nursing Carol Davis is retiring Thursday, Oct. 3. Davis has been in higher education in nursing since 1967.
Under Davis’ leadership, FGCU attracted outstanding nursing faculty who developed an innovative, community-based baccalaureate program that was awarded national accreditation with its first graduating class in 1997.
“Working with the community and faculty, Davis spearheaded development of a community-based graduate nursing program, with specialization as a nurse educator or nurse practitioner offered at the advanced level,” dean of the College of Health Professions Denise Heinemann said.
Through a partnership with Naples Community Hospital, Collier Anesthesia Group and the Norman R. Wolford School of Nurse Anesthesia, specialization in nurse anesthesia is offered.
