FGCU Hockey Club Announces Inaugural Season

FORT MYERS, FL - Florida Gulf Coast University’s hockey club begins its inaugural season at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26 at TECO Arena against Florida Atlantic University in the first of a two-game home series that concludes the following day with game two at 12:30 p.m.

FGCU’s 17-game schedule includes hosting 11 home games at TECO Arena plus a four-team, six-game tournament “Gulf Coast Clash” in January with Tulane University, the University of South Florida and Florida Atlantic University.

The general public may purchase season tickets for $50 at the FGCU Bookstore or pay $5 at the door for regular season home games. A pair of season tickets is $25 for FGCU students and $50 for FGCU employees. All seating is general admission.

The FGCU hockey club, established this spring, currently boasts 13 players, several supporting members and three coaches, including head coach Don Awrey, a former National Hockey League defenseman and three-time Stanley Cup Champion. Bob Brinkworth and Mike Shields are assistant coaches.

The club supports competitive college hockey at FGCU and is an affiliate of College Hockey South, the American Collegiate Hockey Association and USA Hockey. The FGCU hockey club is an officially recognized student organization.
