"Persuading and Influencing Through Leadership" Workshop Offered by FGCU Florida Institute of Government
FORT MYERS, FL - Managers and employees from both the private and public sectors are invited to attend a full-day course “Persuading and Influencing Through Leadership” presented by the Florida Institute of Government at Florida Gulf Coast University as part of its Professional Development Series from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 2 at the FGCU Broadcast Building Room 111.
The course is designed to teach how influencing through leadership takes the department, unit or organization to the next level. Participants will learn the knowledge, skills and abilities to influence and persuade people to move in a new direction. The workshop will allow participants to assess their strengths and weaknesses, in terms of personal power, to influence and persuade others to follow your leadership.
· Explore common patterns found in group problem solving and consensus seeking
· Learn how to influence others when faced with a situation requiring action
· Discuss the factors that drive one’s approach when influencing others
· Identify types of power and their sources
· Examine the relationship between power and leadership
· Discuss influence tools and techniques
· Practice planning and conducting a one-on-one influence interaction
Mary Ellen Dorsett is instructor for the program. She is an organizational development executive, president of her own consulting company and is a certified Chief Training Officer with 27 years of experience in administration, marketing, human resources, training and career development.
Dorsett earned her bachelor’s degree from Florida Atlantic University, a master’s degree from Nova University and is a doctoral candidate studying human resource development at George Washington University. She travels throughout the United States and Canada delivering programs on customer service.
