FGCU President's Renaissance Celebration Plays to Full House
FORT MYERS, FL - Astronomical wonders will fill the air for an evening of possibilities never before imagined as the President’s Renaissance Celebration 2003 bursts into action on Saturday, Feb. 22 in Alico Arena on the campus of Florida Gulf Coast University. The gala begins at 6:30 p.m. with the arrival of guests in Renaissance costumes or black tie attire.
Dubbed “Renaissance” to reflect the University’s vision of the rebirth of learning and high emphasis on the arts, science, logic and the imagination, the gala promises unparalleled entertainment, fine dining and pageantry in the tradition of the Enlightenment.
The third annual Renaissance gala has attracted hundreds of FGCU supporters and well-wishers from the University’s five-county service area and beyond, including the mayor of Fort Myers, CEOs and executives of major corporations and businesses of the area, philanthropists and engaged citizens.
Arriving guests will be welcomed by student pages and moved through a receiving line led by President and Mrs. William C. Merwin. Refreshments, a silent auction and entertainers including a wizard, a fire-eater, a crystal ball balancer and strolling minstrels entertain guests before dinner.
Guests will be heralded in to dinner to enjoy a four-course meal. President Merwin will honor a grand donor with Knighthood in the Order of the Majestic Eagle. Music by Paradise will invite guests to join in the dancing for the evening.
Sponsored by the Florida Gulf Coast University Foundation, this annual gala fundraising event supports scholarships and academic programs at FGCU. The 2003 chairpersons who have led the planning and implementation efforts for this grand event are FGCU Foundation Board members: Gulfcoast regional president of Wachovia Adria Parsons and president of Northern Trust of Lee County Joe Catti.
The media is invited to attend and report this event. Reserve seating for journalists and photojournalists will be available. Journalists are asked to respond if they plan to attend.
