"Communication Survival Skills for Women" Workshop Offered by FGCU Florida Institute of Government

FORT MYERS, FL - Managers and supervisors from both the private and public sectors are invited to attend a half-day workshop “Communication and Survival Skills for Women” presented by the Florida Institute of Government at Florida Gulf Coast University as part of its Professional Development Series 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Friday, Sept. 5 in 111 Broadcast Building.

Participants in the hands-on workshop will learn powerful tools used to persuade and influence others, and learn to avoid common pitfalls and practical strategies and ideas that can be applied to the job.

Objectives:

     Be assertive without being pushy

     Get the message heard, not just said

     Understand the different ways men and women communicate

     Get credit for personal ideas

     Be able to think on your feet

     Discover ways to boost professional image

     Eliminate power-robbing speech habits

     Handle difficult people and situations with ease

Allison Blankenship is instructor for the program. She has more than two decades of hands-on experience in management, marketing and communications. She is an effective and persuasive communicator with the proven ability to sell ideas and teaches how to apply successful strategies and hands-on principles to make organizations less stressful and more profitable.

Her many years of working with renowned companies like the Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company, Wal-Mart, Textron Financial and Bank One give her experience to show how to structure an organization to achieve immediate results. Blankenship was named an Outstanding Woman of America and was president of the Florida Speakers Association.

The central purpose of the Institute is to help promote superior performance in government and nonprofit organizations through quality training, consulting and technical assistance.

As an accredited comprehensive public university, FGCU addresses the higher educational needs of Southwest Florida and provides a learning-centered environment that offers high quality educational opportunities for the general public, such as administratively hosting the Institute.
