25th Anniversary Exhibit of Florida Art Museum Directors Association Opens Oct. 11 at FGCU Arts Complex Gallery
FORT MYERS, FL - The traveling “Florida Visual Art Fellowships: 25th Anniversary Exhibition” will open Saturday, Oct. 11 in the art gallery at Florida Gulf Coast University located in the Arts Complex featuring 24 fellowship recipients since the program’s inception and celebrating the 25th anniversary of the Florida Art Museum Directors Association.
The professional working artists featured, including Maria Brito of Miami, Lynn Davison of Naples, Theo Wujcik of Tampa and Richard Beckman of Temple Terrace, come from all over Florida and have received recognition from organizations such as the National Endowment for the Arts and the Guggenheim, Cintas, Ford and Tiffany foundations.
The artists work in media ranging from oils on canvas, works on paper, steel sculpture, ceramics, mixed media and installation art.
The FGCU Arts Complex art gallery is partnering with the von Liebig Arts Center to present the exhibit through Nov. 22.
In addition, the Arts Complex art gallery is sponsoring an artist panel chaired by exhibition curator Robert Sindelir 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., Friday, Nov. 21 in 111 Arts Complex, followed by a closing reception in the gallery.
Sindelir took nearly two years to identify and contact all 317 Fellowship recipients, FAMDA says. From the 147 artists who responded to the call for slides, Sindelir selected artists whose work reflects the value and impact of the Fellowship on their work and careers.
The Lowe Art Museum at the University of Miami, Gulf Coast Museum of Art in Largo, Pensacola Museum of Art, Terrace Gallery in Orlando and Vero Beach Museum of Art hosted the exhibition, which will reach its final destination Dec. 16 at the Cummer Museum of Art & Gardens in Jacksonville.
