2005 Summer Deaflympics Comes to FGCU for Tennis Tryouts

FORT MYERS, FL - The USA Deaf Sports Federation is hosting tennis tryouts for the 2005 Summer Deaflympics February 27-29 at the Florida Gulf Coast University tennis complex.

The singles tournament will decide which four women and four men may be selected to represent the USA Tennis Team for the 20th Deaflympics in Melbourne, Australia, in January 2005.

The official draw will be Friday evening. Eight men and four women will be seeded into the main draw based on past national tryouts in Springfield, Ohio, in 2000 and Lexington, Ky., in 2002.

The tournament format is double elimination with consolation feed-off. The winner of the consolation match will not play for first or second places. The consolation championship will be for third and fourth places.

Matches in the championship will be two of three sets. Consolation matches will be either two of three sets or Pro-8 format, depending on time allowance.
