FGCU Opens Shakespeare's "As You Like It" April 7
FORT MYERS, FL - Florida Gulf Coast University will open William Shakespeare’s “As You Like It” with a contemporary representation, 8 p.m., Wednesday, April 7 at the Arts Complex Black Box Theater. Other evening performances are 8 p.m., April 8-10 and 14-17. Matinees are 2 p.m., Sundays, April 11 and 18.
FGCU’s version of one of Shakespeare’s most popular comedies is a festive and fun romantic comedy with a modern twist.
The play examines the corruption of city life and pokes fun at one of humankind’s greatest games - the pursuit of love.
The story centers on Rosalind, who escapes an oppressive society. Disguised as a boy in the magical forest of Arden, she has the chance to test Orlando’s love for her.
Filled with cross-dressing, mistaken identities and quick-witted humor, the play teaches that everyone has the opportunity to change “as they like it.”
The intimate setting of FGCU’s black box theater allows the audience to have an up close experience with Shakespeare like no other.
FGCU invites the public to experience the unique production with its contemporary setting and originally composed music.
General admission is $10 and student admission is $5 with an FGCU ID.
Tickets are available 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., beginning Monday, March 15 in Arts Complex 107. Tickets are also available at the door one hour before performances.
Seating is limited and FGCU recommends attendees purchase tickets in advance.
