FGCU Welcomes International Students, Faculty, Staff to Southwest Florida Sept. 17
FORT MYERS, FL - Florida Gulf Coast University invites the public to join in welcoming international students, faculty and staff to Southwest Florida during the eighth annual International Reception, 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., Friday, Sept. 17 in the Student Union ballroom.
"To date, we have had 43 countries represented by our international students," International Services and Student Life director Elaine Hozdik said.
"Additionally, a number of our students have studied abroad as part of their educational experience, to places such as Australia, Spain, Italy, Peru, Brazil, China and the Dominican Republic. Through our international and study abroad programs, we continue to add to our understanding of world cultures and perspectives through the diversity of our university community."
"We encourage members of our community who have an interest in international experiences to join us."
Sponsored by FGCU's Office of International Services and the International Club, the event is an opportunity to become acquainted with FGCU students from other countries or students who have studied abroad.
"This is a wonderful opportunity where the international and domestic students, staff and administration can fellowship with community members in developing a deeper interest and understanding of various cultures and study abroad opportunities at FGCU," international services coordinator Timothy Gjini said.
FGCU will highlight its international education initiatives, its commitment to offering education worldwide and its evolving international reputation. A number of local community organizations and agencies will also be attending.
A sampling of foods and flags from the students' homelands will be part of the reception.
