FGCU Hosts Former U.S. Attorney General Janet Reno
FORT MYERS, FL - Former U.S. Attorney General Janet Reno is the guest speaker at the Florida Gulf Coast University inaugural Community Education Speakers' Forum 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 23 in the Student Union to benefit scholarships for students in the social work degree programs.
Reno, a native Floridian and democrat, served two terms during the Clinton administration as the first woman attorney general for the United States. Her presentation focuses on community building, followed by a question and answer session, and reception.
"This fundraiser will generate much needed scholarship funds for both undergraduate and graduate students in the Division of Social Work," director Pat Washington said.
"Students in the Division of Social Work provide an incredible number of professional internship hours in the five counties served by FGCU. Each undergraduate internship requires 500 hours and each masters' level internship requires 1,000 hours of service.
"Supporting this scholarship effort gives the community an opportunity to acknowledge the value of the service provided by these students to the community and strengthens their ties to the community after graduation. Most are local residents and many are first generation college students attempting to obtain a college education that will provide professional social service skills for the communities in which they live. I urge the community to support of this event and these students."
Tickets are $50 and $30 for adults, and $8 for students.
